Northern Kentucky University Athletics receives gift to fund new tennis and pickleball facility

The $3 million commitment from the Edward G. Reynolds Charitable Trust will support the design and construction of a new outdoor tennis facility and a pickleball facility.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University athletics has received a transformational commitment from the Edward G. Reynolds Charitable Trust.  The $3 million commitment is the largest gift from an individual donor to athletics in school history and will support the design and construction of a new outdoor tennis facility and a new pickleball facility on the site of the existing tennis courts.

"This commitment from the Edward G. Reynolds Charitable Trust is a transformational investment for NKU and the athletics programs," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Christina Roybal. "It will enable us to invest in our facilities for student athletes while also introducing pickleball as an exciting new recreational activity for our students as well as the community. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Reynolds for this support, which will have a lasting impact on our university and those we serve."

Approved at the January 15 Board of Regents meeting, the commitment from the Reynolds Trust will not only enhance the overall student-athlete experience for the tennis programs, but it will provide new recreational opportunities for NKU students, faculty, staff, and the greater northern Kentucky community.

"I want to extend my utmost gratitude to the Edward G. Reynolds Charitable Trust for this generous commitment to our tennis programs," added Brian Nester, head coach for men's and women's tennis.  "This investment will provide an excellent environment for training and competition, and will not only enhance the student-athlete experience, but will allow us to continue to attract and retain high-level talent."

The facility will be named the NKU Tennis Complex. Court one will be named the Maria Reynolds Tennis Court and the new pickleball facility will be named the Reynolds Family Pickleball Facility.  Design work on the new complex will begin immediately, with the new facility scheduled to open in 2026.
