Smyth leads Norse as program records fall at MECTC Champs

MONTICELLO, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University Norse men's triathlon team competed at the MECTC Conference Championships as part of the Boilerman Olympic Triathlon in Monticello, Indiana. The olympic distance race consisted of a 1500m lake swim, 40km mostly flat bike, and a hilly 10km run. The Norse were led by Sean Smyth finishing 15th in the conference, with 4 men finishing for the Norse. Overall performances, several NKU men's triathlon records were set with these performances. Toby Martin set the new Olympic swim record, Sean Smyth set the overall time and Olympic bike record, while Jude Woodruff set the Olympic run course record. Freshman records were broken as well with Toby Martin setting the swim record, Jude Woodruff setting the overall time, bike time and run time freshman records. This race concludes the fall season for the men and look to move to the spring indoor season and conclude with the national championships in March.

NOTABLES
-NKU's top men's triathlete Toby Martin finished with a DNF due to a flat tire, was top 10 at the time of the flat time after having a 1500m swim time of 22:40.
-Sean Smyth led the Norse finishers with a 15th place, after completing the swim in 26:55, the bike in 1:03:48 and the run in 40:33 for an overall time of 2:13:25.  
-Jude Woodruff finished 2nd for the Norse and in 24th place with a 28:25 swim time, 1:09:58 bike time, 37:45 run time for an overall time of 2:19:04.
-Max Marion finished 3rd for the Norse and 28th place with a 24:55 swim time, 1:14:30 bike time, 40:46 run time for an overall time of 2:22:20.
-Finishing out the scoring with 4th for the Norse was Joey Klosterman finishing 138th with a swim time of 46:52, 1:14:45 bike time, and 1:11:02 run time for an overal time of 3:15:01.
