Women’s Basketball allows just eight first-half points in big win over IU Indy

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Coming off a big road win over Purdue Fort Wayne on Monday, Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball looked to tip off the new year with a bang on Friday night as they took on IU Indy. Northern Kentucky dominated the first half, allowing just eight points and leading by 22 after 20 minutes, and coasted in the second half for a double-digit win.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- NKU held IU Indy to just eight first-half points, with the Jaguars scoring four points in each quarter. The Norse didn't even allow a made field goal in the second quarter, and went 21:23 without a made field goal, from 5:07 in the first quarter to 3:44 in the third quarter. 
- Northern Kentucky held IU Indy to 0-15 from three-point range, while the Norse went just 4-22 from deep. 
- The Norse dominated on the glass, 44-29, including 15-9 on offensive boards.
- Maddie Moody tallied a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double, also recording four assists, a block, and a steal.
- Karina Bystry scored 16 points on 5-12 shooting, grabbing two rebounds with a steal. 
- Mya Meredith notched eight points and four rebounds off the bench. 
- Taysha Rushton had seven points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. 

GAME NOTES
- NKU limited IU Indy to 0-15 from three-point range, marking just the fifth time that a team has not made a three on 15 or more attempts this season. It marked just the fourth time in program history that the Norse limited their opponents to zero three pointers made, with the most recent game coming on January 31, 2024, against Detroit Mercy. 
- Maddie Moody recorded the eighth 15-point, 15-rebound game in NKU's Division I history. She became the first Norse to go for 15 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, a block, and a steal in the program's Division I history. 
- NKU's eight points allowed in the first half marked the lowest allowed in a half since November 25, 2017, when the Norse allowed just four points to Oakland City University.
