Women’s Basketball locks down Youngstown State on the road for fourth-straight victory

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball hit the road on Thursday, looking to continue its winning ways against Youngstown State. The Penguins entered the game tied for third in the Horizon League at 4-1, with NKU looking to move a win above .500 in league play. The squads battled in a tight game through the first three quarters, but played lockdown defense down the stretch, allowing just seven fourth-quarter points as NKU won by double-digits on the road.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- NKU held Youngstown State to just 27.1% from the field and 10.7% from three. NKU outshot the Penguins (39.3%) behind solid second and third quarters, and three fourth-quarter threes. 
- NKU made its money in the paint, scoring 38 of its 61 points inside the restricted area. 
- Second chance points proved to be another key area, as the Norse capitalized on 12 offensive rebounds with 20 second chance points.
- Maddie Moody led NKU with 17 points and six rebounds, going 6-10 from the field and 5-5 from the line. 
- Abby Wolterman notched her third-career double-double and first in 2025-26, going for 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had a block and a steal. 
- Karina Bystry finished with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists.
- Kamora Morgan hit a pair of big shots, ending with seven points, three rebounds, and two assists. 
- Noelle Hubert knocked down a pair of fourth-quarter threes and finished with two rebounds and two assists. 
- Mya Meredith tied her season-high with five assists, also grabbing six rebounds. 

GAME NOTES
- NKU's 27.1% opposing field goal percentage was its best mark all season. It marked the lowest opposing field goal percentage by the Norse since December 4, 2022, against Robert Morris. Northern Kentucky's three single-game lowest opponent field goal percentages are in their last three games. (28.6% on 1/2 vs. IU Indy, 33.3% on 1/4 vs. Detroit Mercy)
- The Norse also recorded their best opposing three-point percentage of the season, with Youngstown going 3-28 from downtown. 
- Maddie Moody recorded her 12th game this season with 10-plus points, making her one of 10 freshmen in the nation to do so. 
- Abby Wolterman's double-double was the third by any Norse this season, as Maddie Moody has two.
- Winners of four straight, Northern Kentucky is now on its longest winning streak of the Jeff Hans era, and its longest since January 2023.
