Sheehan Agrees to Four-Year Contract Extension Through 2029 Season

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University Vice President and Director of Athletics Christina Roybal announced that Norse women's soccer head coach Bob Sheehan has agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season.

Sheehan, the only coach in the history of the NKU women's soccer program, has led the Norse for 29 seasons, compiling an overall record of 375-149-50 (.697 winning percentage). His teams have posted a 207-62-25 (.747 winning percentage) conference record across the GLVC, Atlantic Sun and Horizon League.

"For nearly three decades, Bob Sheehan has been the standard for excellence in our women's soccer program, leading with integrity, consistency and a deep commitment to the development of our student-athletes," Roybal said. "This extension reflects our confidence in his leadership and our appreciation for the legacy he continues to build at NKU."

During NKU's Division II era, Sheehan guided the Norse to 14 top-four regular-season finishes in 14 seasons in the GLVC, including 10 first-place regular-season finishes. His teams captured seven GLVC Tournament Championships and earned 11 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, highlighted by five Elite Eight trips and three national semifinal appearances.

At the Division I level, Sheehan has continued to elevate the program in the Horizon League, leading NKU to nine top-three regular-season finishes in 11 seasons, along with nine Horizon League semifinal appearances and four Horizon League Championship match appearances.

Entering the 2025 season, Sheehan ranked among the winningest active coaches in women's soccer. He ranked 12th in the country in wins (365) among active coaches with a minimum of five years as a Division I head coach, while also ranking 25th in wins among active coaches with at least 10 years as a Division I head coach. Sheehan was also ranked 16th nationally in winning percentage (.697) among all-time Division I head coaches with a minimum of five years in the role.

"I am grateful to President Cady Short-Thompson and Director of Athletics Christina Roybal for their trust and confidence," Sheehan said. "This program is built on a strong foundation and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes the right way. We are fortunate to work with outstanding student-athletes, and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to competing with integrity, excellence and pride at the highest level."

In addition to on-field success, the Norse have consistently excelled in the classroom under Sheehan's leadership. NKU has earned 20 consecutive National Team Academic Awards and has received 23 National Team Academic Awards since 2000.

Sheehan has also been recognized for developing elite talent throughout his tenure, coaching a combined 18 conference Players of the Year/Freshman of the Year honorees across the GLVC and Horizon League.

Sheehan will begin his 30th season at the helm of the Norse when Northern Kentucky kicks off its 2026 campaign this fall.
