NKU women's soccer travels to Louisville Wednesday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team closes out its three-game road trip on Wednesday as the Norse travel south to take on Louisville for the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Kickoff from Lynn Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.  Links to live stats and the video broadcast are available at NKUNorse.com.  Follow @NKUNorseGameDay on twitter for live updates during games this season.  For all news pertaining to the NKU women's soccer team throughout the year, be sure to follow @NKUNorseWSOC on Facebook and Twitter as well.

NKU takes a 5-6-3 overall record to Louisville as the Norse split a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference games over the weekend to move to 1-3-1 in league play.  After dropping a 2-0 decision on the road to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, NKU rebounded with a 4-3 victory at Stetson on Sunday afternoon.  Macy Hamblin led the Norse offensive effort, collecting one goal and two assists against the Hatters, while Jessica Frey, Kelsey Laumann and Elizabeth Wittwer each netted goals as well.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE:  The Cardinals are 5-6-2 on the year and 2-2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.  Chinyelu Asher scored the lone Louisville goal on Thursday to lift the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over North Carolina State before the team lost to Boston College, 1-0, on Sunday.

Isabella Habuda leads the Cardinals with seven points on three goals and one assist.  Alison Price has netted two goals, including one game-winner, for the Louisville offense, which has scored 10 goals over 13 games.  Along with Habuda, seven other players account for the rest of the team's eight assists.

Paige Brown has played every minute in goal for the Cardinals.  She holds a 1.41 goals against average and 5-6-2 record.  Brown has posted four shutouts while making 29 saves this season.

FOUR OR MORE:  The NKU offense has scored four goals five times this season, including a 4-0 victory over Wright State in the first exhibition match of the season.  The Norse are 3-1 in the regular season when netting four goals.

NKU began the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Eastern Illinois at the NKU Soccer Stadium on Aug. 22.  Just over a week later, the Norse dropped their only game when scoring four goals with a 6-4 loss at IPFW on Aug. 31.

The team has gone one to win its last two four-goal games by the score of 4-3 each.  The first came on Sept. 26 when Aubrey Muench, Macy Hamblin, Morgan Shafer and Elizabeth Witter each connected on their shot attempts to give the Norse a come-from-behind victory at Robert Morris, which held a 2-1 lead at the half time break.

On Sunday in NKU's 4-3 win at Stetson, Hamblin opened the game's scoring in the first half with her sixth goal of the season.  After the Hatters tied the game less than a minute into the second half, Jessica Frey netted her second goal of the season.  Kelsey Laumann broke a 2-all tie in the70th minute, and Wittwer added the Norse insurance goal at the 76:51 mark to ensure the NKU victory.

EVEN DISTRIBUTION:  Nine different players account for NKU's 25 goals this season, led by Macy Hamblin's six.  Kelsey Laumann, who leads the team and ranks second in the Atlantic Sun with six assists, Sami Rutowski, Jessica Frey and Elizabeth Wittwer have each netted three goals apiece for the Norse.  Three players (Aubrey Muench, Morgan Shafer and Katelyn Newton) have connected on two goals, while Stacie Volker rounds out the offensive output for NKU with one goal this season.

As a team, the Norse land third in the conference in goals scored behind Florida Gulf Coast's 32 and Lipscomb's 26, and NKU averages 1.8 goals per game to rank second in the Atlantic Sun.  Hamblin and Laumann are in the top five among league players in points with 16 and 12, respectively, while Hamblin's six goals are tied for second.

FRESHMAN IMPACT:  NKU's freshmen have made their presence on the field known this season.  Three scored goals to help lead the Norse to its first Atlantic Sun victory, a 4-3 win over Stetson on Sunday.  Macy Hamblin leads the team in goals scored (6), points (16), shots (47) and shots on goal (25) in her first season with the Norse.  Jessica Frey and Elizabeth Wittwer have added three goals each to the NKU offense.

Morgan Shafer got in on the action against the Hatters as well.  She was credited with an assist on the game-winning play when her initial shot attempt bounced of Stetson goalkeeper Katie Hightower.  Wittwer was able to gain control of the ball off the rebound and found the back of the net for her second game-winner of the season.  This year, Shafer has recorded five points on two assists and one goal.

Hannah Dufresne, Kayte Osterfeld and Madison Terry have each earned starts this season.  Dufresne started five of the first six NKU games this season, while Osterfeld and Terry have received spots in three starting lineups.

UP NEXT:  NKU closes out the home portion of its 2014 regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. as the Norse welcome Kennesaw State to the NKU Soccer Stadium for Senior Day.  Links to live stats and video broadcasts are available at NKUNorse.com.

CG Bryant and Abbey Scherer will be honored for their contributions to the program on Saturday evening in a pregame ceremony.  In addition, it will also be Local County Night where fans will receive $3 admission with proof of residency in Boone, Campbell or Kenton County.  Kids 12 and under can get in free as part of Junior Norse and Camper Reunion Day.

The Bank of Kentucky Center will host an event on Oct. 18 at 7:30 pm.  With this event conflicting with the NKU women's soccer game going on at the same time, there are some parking changes and recommendations for getting to the NKU Soccer Complex:

--Fans are encouraged to arrive early between 6-6:30 p.m. in order to avoid the traffic congestion that will increase as the 7:30 p.m. event approaches at The Bank of Kentucky Center.

--Parking for soccer will be located in two areas on campus.  Soccer spectators will be able to park in the Welcome Center Garage on campus for $10 per vehicle.   There will also be a $4 per vehicle fee in Lot T, which is a bit further away from the NKU Soccer Complex.  Spectators can choose either lot for the soccer match that evening.
