The Norse enter the Detroit matchup with a 7-7-3 overall record and finished Atlantic Sun play 3-3-1 after defeating Lipscomb, 2-0, in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday evening.
Aubrey Muench netted two goals to help NKU ensure its first trip to the Atlantic Sun tournament, where the Norse (No. 5) will face No. 4 North Florida at noon on Saturday. Muench opened the game's scoring in the 30th minute when she beat Lipscomb goalkeeper Anna Buhigas inside the box for a 1-0 NKU lead. She sealed the victory early in the second half with her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
ABOUT DETROIT: The Titans bring an 8-6-1 record into Tuesday's contest against the Norse and are 5-2 in Horizon League action. A second-half goal by Valparaiso's Sarah Ludwig was the difference maker on Saturday, giving the Crusaders a 1-0 victory over Detroit in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Alyssa Riley leads the Titans offense with 15 points on a team-leading six goals and three assists. Sara Zawacki has scored three goals for Detroit, and Alyssa Lotito tops the team with four assists. Anna Mindling has netted two goals, while Haley Burtraw has assisted on three goals for the Titans this season.
Marina Manzo has seen action in every game in goal this season for the Titans, and she has earned 14 starts. She has allowed 15 goals and made 69 saves en route to an 8-5-1 record with six shutouts. She holds a 1.01 goals against average for Detroit.
AGAINST THE HORIZON LEAUGE: NKU is 2-2 all-time against members of the Horizon League. Oakland (Mich.) leads the all-time series with the Norse, having defeated NKU 2-0 in the first-ever meeting in 2012 and 2-1 last season. NKU has been on the winning side of a pair of games against Youngstown State to take 2-0 lead over the Penguins. The Norse recorded a 2-1 win in Youngstown, Ohio, two years ago before posting a 3-2 victory at the NKU Soccer Stadium during the 2013 season.
NKU faced one Horizon League opponent this season, scoring two goals in the first half to defeat Wright State, 4-0, in an exhibition match on Aug. 8 in Dayton, Ohio.
NKU and Detroit have never faced off in women's soccer.
WEEKLY WINNER: On Sunday,
Aubrey Muench became the second NKU player this season to earn the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award. She scored both NKU goals as the Norse defeated Lipscomb, 2-0, on Friday evening.
Muench tallied her first goal of the night in the game's 30th minute. Muench gathered a cross from
Hanna Pateryn inside the box and slipped the ball past Lipscomb goalkeeper Anna Buhigas for a 1-0 Norse lead at the 29:40 mark.
The redshirt sophomore from Cold Spring, Kentucky, extended the Norse lead less than five minutes into the second half after connecting on a shot after a pass from
Kelsey Laumann for her fourth goal of the season.
Muench is tied for third on the team with 10 points on four goals and two assists this season. Her first two goals of the year came in back-to-back games against Francis Marion and USC Upstate as the Norse began conference play.
SCHOCKER SAVES: Brooke Schocker has come up strong over NKU's last four games, recording a 3-1 record and two straight shutouts over that span. On Friday, Schocker posted her fifth win of the season in a 2-0 victory over Lipscomb, making nine stops en route to her second goalless performance of the season.
After helping NKU to a 1-0 victory over Kennesaw State and a 2-0 win against Lipscomb, Schocker became the first Norse goalkeeper to post back-to-back shutouts since Cassie Lingenhoel accomplished the feat during the 2011 season.
Schocker has made 13 appearances this season and earned nine starts. She holds a 1.54 goals against average with 58 saves and a 5-4-1 overall record.
UP NEXT: NKU travels to Jacksonville, Florida, to participate in its first Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Norse, who earned the No. 5 seed in the tournament, will face No. 4 North Florida at Hodges Stadium.
