DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team saw a setback in nonconference play on Wednesday, dropping a 7-0 decision to Bethune-Cookman to open a four-day swing in the Sunshine State.
While Bethune-Cookman (13-6) swept through doubles action, the Norse (5-8) saw some battles in singles play.
Rheanna Morehart took her No. 4 singles match to a third-set supertiebreaker before falling in a 10-8 decision to Maria Garoz-Mareno. At No. 6,
Sierra Nellessen dropped a 7-5, 6-3 match to Gaby Chinchilla, while just two breaks were the difference in a 6-3, 6-4 win for Maria Sablina over NKU's
Sydney Power at No. 2.
The Norse will look to regain some momentum on Thursday, when they return to Atlantic Sun Conference action at Stetson. First serve from the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Florida, is set for noon. Links to live results are available at NKUNorse.com.
