CINCINNATI –
Sierra Nellessen picked up her second singles victory in a row as the Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Cincinnati in nonconference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Nellessen defeated Samantha Perry, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 6 singles flight to claim NKU's only point on the afternoon. The win was her sixth on the season, putting her one behind
Danielle Donahue,
Rheanna Morehart and
Sydney Power for the team lead.
Morehart had a battle as well, taking her No. 3 singles match against Lauren Bellinger to a second-set tiebreak before falling, 7-1. A late break in the first set put Cincinnati's Natalia Abdalla over
Nicole Soutar, 7-5, before a 6-3 win in the second set secured the match for the Bearcats at No. 5.
NKU, now 6-12 on the season, will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when the Norse host Xavier in their final home match of the season. Due to weather concerns, the match has been moved indoors to the Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
The week's action concludes on Saturday when the Norse close out Atlantic Sun Conference play against Lipscomb. With a win, the Norse can secure their place in next week's A-Sun Championships. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
