Soutar, Nellessen prevail in 5-2 loss to Xavier

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team saw success in the bottom of the singles lineup as the Norse fell to Xavier, 5-2, in nonconference action at Five Seasons Sports Club.
 
The doubles point came down to the wire, as Xavier picked up a win on No. 2 with Lauren Ghidotti and Cristina Di Lorenzo defeating Rheanna Morehart and Nicole Soutar, 6-2, just before NKU leveled things at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory by Sydney Power and Yasmine Xantos over Lizzie Oosterbaan and Megan Morris.
 
Xavier's Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail captured the point in the top-flight match, coming back from down 5-4 to take a 7-5 win over Danielle Donahue and Hailey Shanahan.
 
The Musketeers (13-4) took the match with wins in the top four singles flights. Morehart and Donahue each fell in 6-3, 6-4 results to Di Lorenzo and Ghidotti, respectively.
 
Nellessen picked up her third win in as many tries with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Abby Roebker at No. 6. Soutar closed out the day with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) win over Oosterbaan to reach the final score.
 
With the loss, NKU fell to 6-13 on the season entering Saturday's Atlantic Sun Conference finale at Lipscomb. First serve from Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee, is set for 11 a.m.
