DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team defeated Bowling Green, 5-2, to open the season on Friday evening at the South Regency Tennis Center.

Sierra Nellessen and
Sydney Power each picked up doubles and singles victories while
Klara Skopac recovered from a 6-3 first-set loss to defeat Polina Radeva 6-2, 7-6 at No. 1 singles.
At the No. 3 spot, Power came out of a close first-set battle on top, 7-6, and used the momentum to cruise to a 6-1 win in set two to seal her singles victory.
Soutar blanked Leeah Floyd 6-0, 6-0 while Nellessen posted a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win over Marina Ferrero.
NKU earned the doubles point after the team of Soutar and
Hailey Shanahan took a 6-3 victory and Nellessen and Power turned in a 6-0 win.
The Norse improve to 1-0 to start the season while Bowling Green falls to 1-2. NKU faces a quick turnaround as they travel to take on Louisville at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
