@NKUNorseWSOC opens final road swing at UIC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team has won six of its last seven matches and opens its final regular-season road trip on Saturday against UIC. The Norse take on the Flames at 8 p.m. ET at Flames Field.

LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, NKU fought to a 3-2 win over Youngstown State at home. Jessica Frey netted the game winner in the 81st minute on a double-assist from Ally Perkins and Katelyn Newton. Newton also had a goal of her own in the contest. The Norse offense dominated, out-shooting YSU 20-7 overall and 11-3 on goal.
 
SCOUTING UIC: The Flames - who have won each of their last three games at home - currently sit sixth in the Horizon League with a 3-2-0 HL record. UIC is coming off a 2-1 win over Cleveland State last weekend. Reigning Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week Rebecca Pallo netted her fifth game-winner in the match as she ranks fifth nationally in game-winning goals. Pallo has scored four goals in the last five games and leads the offense with six total tallies and 13 points. Olivia Everin and Jasmin Carrea are tied with a team-high four assists apiece.
 
Kelly Fritz has been the goalkeeper of choice in the last four matches, during which time she has made 13 saves and garnered a 0.50 goals-against-average. On the season, she has made 28 saves and owns a 0.93 GAA. As a team, UIC has allowed 1.57 goals per game this year, while scoring 1.29 per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Saturday's match will be the second-ever meeting between the two teams. The squads first met last year when the Norse shut out the Flames, 2-0, at NKU Soccer Stadium on Sept. 26. Current senior Katelyn Newton scored the second goal of the match in the 85th minute while Jessica Frey posted an assist. Brooke Schocker made four saves for the shutout.
 
SCORING STREAK: Senior midfielder Katelyn Newton has scored a goal in each of the last three contests to lead the Norse to three-straight victories. Her three tallies have lifted her to a single-season career high 10 points. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has four goals and two assists after starting all 13 matches so far. Two of her four goals have been game-winners as the senior is second on the team in minutes played with 1,121 accounting for all but 61 of NKU's total minutes played.
 
FIRING AWAY: Northern Kentucky has reached double-figures in shot attempts in nine of its last 10 matches including 20 or more shots in each of the last two games. The Norse are winners of their last three contests, where they have out-shot their foes 55-18 overall and 31-8 on goal.
 
NKU is averaging 16.80 shots per game against League opponents, while allowing just 8.80. NKU has out-scored HL teams 10-4 and is averaging 2.00 goals per game while allowing just 0.80. Additionally, the Norse own a .548 shot on goal percentage in League games as 46 of their 84 attempts have been on target.
 
UP NEXT: The Norse travel to League-leading Wright State (6-6-2, 4-0-1) for the final road match of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Dayton, Ohio. The key conference matchup will kick off at 7 p.m.
