WBB opens up home slate against Miami University

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball opens up the home season on Tuesday, hosting Miami (Ohio) at 7 p.m. in BB&T Arena. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN3 platform with Andrew Kappes on the call for the Norse and Karmen Graham on color. Fans can stream the game live through WatchESPN or the ESPN App on their computers, tablets and smart phones.

LAST TIME OUT: The Norse hit the road for Terre Haute, Indiana, last Friday to kick off the 2016-17 campaign at Indiana State. NKU was unable to pull any momentum in the season opener, falling to the Sycamores in a 58-38 decision. The game saw a slow first half on both sides, tied 17-17, before Indiana State pulled away for the win. Junior forward Kasey Uetrecht led the team in scoring with 10 points and also added six rebounds, while redshirt-senior forward Rebecca Lyttle led the Norse on the boards with eight rebounds.

SCOUTING MIAMI: The RedHawks were able to secure a win in their season opener last Friday on the road at Austin Peay, downing the Governors, 73-58. Sophomore guard Leah Purvis led the team with 17 points, drilling four 3-pointers on seven attempts. Kayla Brown added 13 points as the only other RedHawk in double-figure scoring, also reaping success from beyond the arc with three triples on four shots. Lauren Dickerson and Megan Galloway did the bulk of the work on the boards, with each grabbing 10 rebounds. The feat is all the more impressive for Dickerson, a freshman guard who stands at 5-foot-3 and also added nine points and six assists. Miami took nearly half of its shots from 3-point range, hitting 12-of-29 attempts for a .414 clip. The team shot better from the arc than from the field as a whole, going 26-of-65 from the field for a 40.0 percent shooting percentage. Last season, Miami finished 12th in the Mid-American Conference, and was picked to finish fifth in the MAC East this year.

Tuesday's game will mark the 14th meeting between the Norse and the RedHawks in program history. NKU holds a narrow advantage in the all-time series, 7-6, recently snapping a four-game losing skid to Miami last season with a 71-57 win on the road on Nov. 13. When the RedHawks have traveled to Highland Heights, the series is tied at 3-3 for home contests.
