Northern Kentucky women’s basketball signs Ya Ida Sköld

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball made its second addition out of Malmö, Sweden this offseason, as the Norse picked up Swedish guard Ya Ida Sköld on Saturday. 

"Ya Ida has a smooth offensive game and can score at all three levels," said Norse head coach Jeff Hans. "She plays with great energy and competitiveness, and having the shared hometown connection with Sara Basaran adds a unique layer of familiarity and chemistry to our program."

Ya Ida has played with RIG Lulea in the Swedish basketball league for the past three seasons, and recently averaged 10.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in the 2024-25 campaign. She also competed for Sweden's national team at multiple youth levels, including the 2023 U16 Team at FIBA Eurobasket, where she averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists and helped lead Sweden to a third-place finish. Sköld also has experience in Basketball Without Borders in both 2024 and 2025.
