HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team travels to take on Louisville on Sunday, March 13 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. First serve is at 6 p.m.
The Norse (2-2) last competed at Xavier on Feb. 26 when they opened an eight-match road swing. NKU suffered a heartbreaking 4-2 loss after the Musketeers battled to a pair of three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles to clinch the victory.
Mate Virag and
Jody Maginley look to continue their winning ways this weekend as the two are riding three-match win streaks in singles play.
Maginley leads NKU with an 8-2 singles record and has competed at the No. 3 flight throughout the spring season. The senior is 6-3 in doubles action after pairing up primarily with
Court Clark and
Blaine Carr.
Meanwhile, Virag is 5-3 this year as the top-flight singles player with his only loss of the spring season coming against nationally ranked competition at Kentucky.
Lukas Clemens and
Court Clark have each won two of their last three matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
The Cardinals are 8-8 on the season, having last competed when they fell to Georgia Tech on Friday. Louisville will host Clemson Sunday afternoon before taking on NKU in the evening.
The squad has a pair of singles players ranked in the top-15 in the Ohio Valley Region. Alex Gornet sits at No. 3 and has a 17-11 overall record. Brandon Lancaster, who is ranked No. 8 in the region, is tied with Gornet for a team-high 17 wins to just six losses.
Additionally, the doubles team of Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet is ranked No. 5 regionally and are 9-10 overall.
Following Sunday's match, the Norse travel to Dayton to take on the Flyers at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 18. The match will serve as the final nonconference tune-up before the Norse open Horizon League play on March 26 at Cleveland State.
