HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team captured the doubles point on Saturday afternoon, but fell to the Milwaukee Panthers, 4-1, at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
The duo of Sydney Power and Sierra Nellessen cruised to a 6-2 victory over Dana Shannon and Masha Lobanova at the No. 3 doubles flight to open the match.
The Panthers posted a win at No. 2 doubles before the No. 1 team of Danielle Donahue and Klara Skopac clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Laurie Clark and Alysa Straub.
At No. 4 and No. 5 singles, Nicole Soutar and Nellessen fought through a pair of close second sets, but fell to Milwaukee. Soutar was bested by Straub, 6-0, 7-5, while Nellessen fell 6-1, 7-6.
Skopac was ahead 3-1 in the third set of her No. 1 singles match when Milwaukee clinched the team victory.
NKU dips to 7-11 this season and 2-6 in the Horizon League while Milwaukee improves to 11-9 and 5-3 in League play. With the loss, the Norse can no longer qualify for the Horizon League Tournament April 29-May 1.
The Norse conclude the season on Sunday when they host Green Bay for a 1 p.m. match at Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex. The match will serve as Senior Day where NKU will honor Hailey Shanahan and Nicole Soutar in a pre-match ceremony.
