Women's tennis hosts Oakland, Detroit

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team plays four of its last five matches at home, beginning with a pair of weekend contests against Oakland and Detroit. The Norse host Oakland Saturday, April 9 at 3 p.m. and turn around to take on the Titans on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Saturday's match will take place at Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, while Sunday's will be played at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex on the NKU campus.

Last weekend, NKU (6-8, 1-4 Horizon League) split a pair of matches, defeating Valparaiso 6-1 and falling to UIC 7-0.

Against Valpo, Nicole Soutar dropped just three games in a victory over the Crusaders' Halle Roach at No. 5 singles, and also captured a 6-2 doubles win over Roach and Erin Staal with partner Rheanna Morehart.

Klara Skopac has competed exclusively at No. 1 singles, capturing a team-high eight wins in dual matches en route to an 11-7 record on the year.

After splitting time at the No. 2 and 3 flight, Sydney Power sits at 7-7 in dual matches this spring and owns a 6-4 doubles record when pairing up with Sierra Nellessen at the No. 2 and 3 flight.

Oakland is on a three-game skid and sits at 8-7 this season including 1-3 in the Horizon League. Tamara Blum competes at top-flight singles and owns a 12-9 overall record. Juliana Guevara has a team-best 17-3 overall record including a 12-2 mark in dual matches after competing primarily at No. 6 singles.

Detroit is 3-7 and 2-2 in League play. The Titans host Wright State on Saturday before traveling to Northern Kentucky. Irina Slizovskaya and Iris Thioux are each riding a three-match win streak. Slizovskaya is 4-6 in dual matches at No. 2 and 3 singles while Thioux is 6-4 at the No. 6 flight.

After taking on Oakland and Detroit, the Norse take on crosstown opponent Cincinnati for the final road match of the season on Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m.
