Wright State up next for @NKUNorseWBB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball welcomes Horizon League rival Wright State into BB&T Arena on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will be carried on the ESPN3 platform with Andrew Kappes on play-by-play for the Norse while Shane Duncan will serve as analyst. Fans can stream the game live on computers, tablets and smart phones through WatchESPN and the ESPN App. Additionally, the game is Kenton Co. Day; all residents of Kenton Co. will receive $3 admission with proof of residency.

LAST TIME OUT: Despite playing with just seven players for the majority of the game against Youngstown State, the Norse were able to hold off the Penguins in an overtime victory for the first League win of the season. YSU was able to force overtime by way of a dominant fourth quarter, but a 10-of-10 effort from the free throw line and aggressive rebounding by junior forward Kasey Uetrecht bolstered the Norse in the 87-81 win. Uetrecht pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds while adding 22 points and was one of two players with a double-double as Rebecca Lyttle tied her career high of 23 points while adding 11 boards.

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE: The Raiders sit in a four-way tie for second in the League with a 3-1 record, and have posted an 11-5 overall mark on the season. Wright State is not only the best in the League at protecting the ball, but also ranks third nationally in fewest turnovers per game with just 10.9 miscues a contest. The Raiders have also played a clean game with the fewest fouls in the League. Wright State has been averaging 69.3 points per game while holding teams to 63.1 ppg, both of which rank among the League's top four in both statistical categories.

Wright State has been known for producing the top player in the League for the past three years, and with the graduation of two-time Player of the Year Kim Demmings, the Raiders have turned to juniors Chelsea Welch and Lexi Smith to pace the team in scoring, with Welch averaging 16.8 ppg and Smith putting up 14.0 ppg. Additionally, Smith is averaging a double-double in League play at 14.5 ppg and 11.5 rpg.

Unlike most of the opponents in the Horizon League, NKU and Wright State have a history that dates back to the 1981-82 season. In the 16 all-time series, NKU holds the 12-4 edge. However, since the series was renewed in the 2014-15 season after nearly a 30-year hiatus, Wright State has won all three of the last games.

HOME SUPPORT: Northern Kentucky currently ranks 74th in the nation and second in the Horizon League in average attendance for home games. When playing at BB&T Arena, the Norse have pulled an average of 1,797 fans per game for a total of 12,577 throughout the seven home contests. The most attended game of the year thus far was the Nov. 30 tilt against Stetson, which drew a crowd of 5,332. That number ranks fourth in BB&T Arena history for an NCAA basketball game.
