HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball hits the road for the Motor City on Monday, where the Norse will take on Detroit Mercy. Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be carried on the ESPN3 platform with Denny Kapp on the call for the Titans. LAST TIME OUT: The Norse hosted nearby Horizon League rival Wright State on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Raiders by way of a 70-63 decision. NKU was able to keep WSU at bay for the majority of the game, but a strong third quarter by the Raiders propelled Wright State to the win. Junior guard
Mikayla Terry led the Norse in scoring with 20 points, her third 20-point game of the season. NKU had a rounded effort out of senior guard
Shar'Rae Davis, who led the team in rebounds (8), assists (4), blocks (2) and steals (2). Senior guard
Kelley Wiegman and junior forward
Kasey Uetrecht also had double-digit scoring efforts with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY: The Titans were tabbed to finish second in the League according to the preseason poll and currently sit at 7-9 overall and 3-2 in League play. Detroit Mercy still showcased its talent in its setbacks, as the Titans were the closest League team to taking down RV/RV Green Bay in a 60-55 loss on Jan. 11. As a team, the Titans' top statistic is in their 3-point shooting. Detroit Mercy not only leads the League in 3-pointers per game, but the team is also 22nd in the nation with 8.4 triples a contest. The Titans are also aggressive on the defensive boards, ranking 17th nationally with 30 defensive rebounds a game.
Individually, Detroit Mercy boasts the reigning HL Player of the Week and the Preseason Player of the Year, Rosanna Reynolds. The senior guard not only leads the team with 16.4 points per game, but she also leads the League and ranks 26th in the nation with 5.9 assists a game. Detroit Mercy's top threat from beyond the arc is Nicole Urbanick, who tops the League in 3-pointers attempted and made, with 2.53 a game, while also connecting at a .384 clip from long range for the fourth-best 3FG percentage.
NKU has only squared off with Detroit Mercy twice in program history, with both meetings taking place last season. On the road, the Norse lost a 66-65 heartbreaker before avenging the loss on Feb. 18, 81-60.
