INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's basketball forward
Kailey Coffey has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, as announced by the League office on Monday afternoon. The honor is Coffey's first of her career, and it is the first time that a Norse has been recognized by the Horizon League in a weekly distinction since Feb. 1, 2016. Furthermore, an NKU rookie has not been awarded a weekly accolade since Nov. 23, 2015.
Coffey had a career scoring night against Austin Peay on Dec. 5 with 16 points and led the Norse with eight rebounds. She followed it up on Dec. 9 with a solid stat line against Indiana with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Over the week, Coffey led the Norse with a .500 field-goal percentage and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
"Kailey is a player that continues to give consistent toughness and effort each day," noted head coach
Camryn Whitaker. "She's one of the hardest workers I've ever coached, is a team player and embodies everything we want our players to be about! I'm proud of the improvement Kailey and the rest of our young team has made so far this season."
The Norse have more than a week off until the next time the team hits the hardwood with another trip to the Sunshine State on tap following finals week. NKU takes on North Florida and Jacksonville on Dec. 19 and 20, respectively, with both games to be played on the North Florida campus in Jacksonville, Florida.
