LAST TIME OUT: NKU had its first regular-season sweep of the year on Thursday night with a 66-49 win over UIC. Junior forward
Kasey Uetrecht led the team in scoring with 20 points, making it the second time that she paced the team with a 20-point performance against the Flames after pouring in 24 points on Jan. 22. Junior guard
Mikayla Terry also had a large part in NKU's victory with her second career double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was senior guard
Kelley Wiegman, who notched a season-high 14 points off of 50.0 percent shooting from the field.
SCOUTING VALPARAISO: The Crusaders sit at the bottom of the Horizon League with UIC as each sports a 1-12 record in League play. Since the Norse last met with Valpo on Jan. 22, the Crusaders picked up their first HL win of the season in a dominant victory over Youngstown State on Feb. 2, 77-60.
Valpo ranks in the bottom half of the League in most statistical categories, averaging 61.9 points per game while allowing 72.3 ppg. The top stat line for the Crusaders is their shot blocking, which tops the League at 4.2 rejections a game, led by 6-foot-4 center Amber Lindfors with 2.3 blocks a game to rank in the top 30 nationally. Valpo's lineup also features one of the top scorers in the League, with Dani Franklin averaging 18.7 ppg behind efficient performances across the board. Franklin leads the League in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.8 percent, good for 15th in the country, and is also connecting at a .458 clip from the entire field and 85.3 percent from the free throw line.
The series history with the Crusaders only dates back to last season, when NKU joined the Horizon League. Valpo took the first meeting in a 61-60 heartbreaker in Highland Heights, but the Norse avenged the loss with a 68-50 win on the road and a 76-53 decision in the second round of the Horizon League Championship. NKU looks to sweep this year's series with the Crusaders after already taking down Valpo on the road in a 70-55 decision.
