HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball begins continues its final road trip of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18, when the Norse take on Cleveland State at 1 p.m. ET. Saturday's matinee will be carried on the ESPN3 platform with Ed Daugherty on the call. Fans can stream the game live on computers, tablets and smart phones through WatchESPN and the ESPN App.
LAST TIME OUT: NKU rallied to force overtime against Youngstown State on Thursday night - the second time in as many meetings in which the Penguins and the Norse have played extra minutes. However, YSU was able to protect its home court with a 77-73 win. The Norse were led by senior forward
Rebecca Lyttle and redshirt-freshman
Taryn Taugher, who both put up 20 points. The scoring effort was a career best for Taugher, while Lyttle coupled her second 20-point game of the season with 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double this year. Both teams shot over 40 percent for the night and the Norse outrebounded YSU 38-28, but the Penguins used nine 3-pointers to pull away for the win.
SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE: The Vikings are looking to snap a three-game losing skid, most recently falling to League-leading Wright State on Thursday evening, 65-60. CSU is 12-14 overall and 7-8 in League play, and sits in the bottom half of most statistical areas among League opponents. The Vikings rank well in defensive categories, holding down the third spot in the League in blocked shots per game (3.1) while ranking fifth in steals per game (6.8).
Individually, Cleveland State boasts the second-leading scorer in the League with Ashanti Abshaw pouring in 18.4 ppg. Coupled with Khayla Livingston, the tandem averages 33.7 of CSU's 64.8 ppg scoring offense. Livingston has also made her mark as one of the top point guards in the League, dishing out 4.8 assists. On the defensive end, Shadae Bosley is the second-leading shot blocker in the League with 1.39 rejections a contest.
NKU holds a 3-2 record all-time against the Vikings, with just one game in the series played prior to the Norse joining the Horizon League last season. The last time the two teams met was on Jan. 5, when the Vikings claimed a 58-54 League-opening win in Highland Heights.
