HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball hosts Horizon League-leading Green Bay on Sunday, Feb. 26, in the last game of the regular season. The game is at the back end of a doubleheader with the NKU men's game, with tipoff slated for 3:30 p.m. ET. Prior to tipoff, NKU will honor its four seniors:
Shar'Rae Davis,
Sarah Kinch,
Rebecca Lyttle and
Kelley Wiegman. Sunday's game will be broadcast on the Spectrum Sports and the ESPN3 platform with Marty Bannister on the call and Jackie Windon as analyst. Fans can stream the game live on computers, tablets and smart phones through WatchESPN and the ESPN App.
LAST TIME OUT: The Norse pulled off a tremendous upset of Milwaukee, which entered the game tied for third in the Horizon League. NKU knocked down 13 3-pointers en route to a 71-52 win over the Panthers, the most triples since hitting as many on Jan. 22, 2015 against North Florida. Every Norse scored in the effort, including senior
Sarah Kinch, who returned to action after missing the first 28 games of the season to injury. Kinch provided the 13th trey for the team with a minute to play. Senior guard
Shar'Rae Davis and redshirt-freshman guard
Taryn Taugher paced the Norse in scoring with 16 points apiece, with Davis adding five assists and no turnovers while Taugher went 4-of-5 from long range in the second half.
SCOUTING GREEN BAY: The Phoenix have long been the gold standard of the Horizon League and enter Sunday in a two-way tie with Wright State for the top spot in the League after taking down the Raiders on Friday night, 58-51. Green Bay is currently receiving votes in the Associated Press poll with a 23-5 record on the year.
Green Bay boasts one of the stingiest defenses in the nation, ranking second at 50.8 points allowed per game, and also has the 11th-highest scoring margin as the Phoenix take down opponents by 18.3 points on average. Individually, Mehryn Kraker is making her case for being this season's Player of the Year by averaging 18.3 ppg while shooting 53.8 percent from the field, both of which rank second among League opponents. Green Bay also features the League's top double-double producer, with Jessica Lindstrom averaging 12.6 ppg and 9.6 rpg and recording 12 double-doubles on the year.
The Norse are still searching for the first win in program history against the Phoenix, with Green Bay holding a 4-0 advantage in the all-time series. NKU came close to pulling off an upset in the semifinals of last year's Horizon League Championship, pushing overtime but ultimately falling, 80-78.
