RADFORD, Va.  – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team split a doubleheader with Radford on Friday, earning a 10-5 victory in a full nine innings in game one, then falling to the Highlanders by the same score, 10-5, in the seven-inning nightcap at the Radford Baseball Stadium.

NKU moves to 3-9 on the season while Radford moves to 4-11.

GAME ONE | Northern Kentucky 10, Radford 5

Northern Kentucky scored in clusters, distributing 10 runs across four different innings to win the series opener. The bullpen helped seal the win while the offense took advantage of Radford's defensive woes that resulted in seven Highlander errors.

At the Plate

·         Brad Bohlen posted the first four-hit game of the year for any Norse, going 4-for-5 in game one. Two of his four hits were doubles.

·         NKU tied its season-high 15 hits, which were distributed among nine different players.

·         TJ Alas and Will Haueter both went 2-for-6 while Trey Ganns went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.

·         Haueter scored a game-high three runs while Roberts had a game-high three RBI.

On the Mound

·         Ganns picked up the win in his fourth start and threw a season-high 6.0 innings. The left-hander held the Highlanders to two runs through his first five frames. His final line included 10 hits, five runs (four earned) and five strikeouts with just one walk.

·         Seth Rosenberg retired all three batters he faced in the seventh and struck out one. He threw eight pitches, six for strikes.

·         Brody Basilone threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and no runs. He struck out two of his seven batters faced and walked one.

Key Moments

·         The Norse took their first lead of the game on a pair of sacrifice hits from Roberts and Colletta in the top of the fourth that pushed the score to 2-1 after Radford scored in the bottom of the first.

·         RU immediately countered with one run in its half of the fourth inning to tie it up at 2-2.

·         Northern Kentucky reclaimed the advantage with a three-run fifth in which the Norse clubbed three hits and benefited from two Highlander miscues. NKU held a 5-2 edge through five innings.

·         Radford again responded with three runs of its own to knot the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth.

·         Norse relievers held Radford scoreless throughout the remainder of the game, retiring a stretch of seven-straight. Meanwhile, the Norse offense added a run in the seventh and unleashed four runs in the eighth that scored on a pair of RBI singles, an error and a wild pitch.

GAME TWO | Radford 10, Northern Kentucky 5 (seven innings)

Radford jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning and led the rest of the way as it defeated the Norse, 10-5, in seven innings in game two.

At the Plate

·         Haueter clubbed two hits for the second-straight game and also drove in two of NKU's five runs.

·         Mike Moffatt joined Haueter with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

On the Mound

·         Norse starter Pat Kelley tossed 2.1 innings before being relieved by Jordan Menfee in the third.

·         Menfee, a sophomore, threw 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or an earned run. One unearned run scored against the righty as NKU struggled defensively in the nightcap.

·         Joe Martin and Cameron Ross also saw action out of the bullpen. Martin faced two batters and was relieved by Ross who allowed one hit and one run in 1.0 inning.

Key Moments

·         Radford came out swinging, scoring five runs on four hits and two Norse errors in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.

·         The Highlanders extended their lead to 6-1 with an RBI single in the third.

·         Both squads scored in their halves of the fifth to make it a 7-2 game. Alas sent an RBI single up the middle to plate Ganns who reached on a lead-off double.

·         Northern Kentucky came within two runs of Radford with a three-run sixth that cut the deficit to 7-5, however, Radford answered back with three runs of their own to put the game out of reach.

Norse Notes

·         Haueter and Brad Bohlen led NKU at the plate across both games, both batting .444 on 4-for-9 hitting. Haueter also added three RBI total as did Roberts.
