HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Starting pitcher
Trey Ganns set the Northern Kentucky University baseball team up for a victory , throwing 6.0 innings with two runs allowed as the Norse went on to score six runs on six hits in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Wright State, 7-2, and avoid the sweep.
Northern Kentucky improves to 16-27 overall and 9-10 in the Horizon League. Wright State is now 29-13 (15-4 Horizon).
At the Plate
- NKU out-hit Wright State 12-5.
- Six Norse posted two hits in the contest. TJ Alas was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI.
- Jake Richmond was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Conor Ledger had an RBI, driving in the game-tying run in the seventh inning, as part of a 2-for-4 performance.
On the Mound
- Ganns allowed just three hits in his 6.0 innings of two-run baseball. He fanned three and walked one.
- Cameron Ross was the only other Norse pitcher to see action on Sunday. Ross threw 3.0 scoreless innings with two hits, two strikeouts and no walks.
Key Moments
- WSU was held scoreless through the first five frames as Ganns allowed just three base runners through the first four innings, not including a runner that reached on a throwing error.
- NKU got out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Alas scored Richmond from first on a double to deep centerfield.
- The Raiders tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth with a Gabe Snyder solo homer to left-center.
- They added another in the top of the seventh on a double to take their first lead of the game at 2-1.
- The WSU lead was short-lived as the Norse struck for six runs in the bottom of the seventh starting with Ledger's RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
- A Brad Bohlen fielder's choice scored Chad Roberts for the go-ahead run followed by a two-run single from Richmond and a two-run homer from Alas for the 7-2 lead.
- Ross closed out the win with his three scoreless innings of work.

- In his last three starts on the mound, Ganns has totaled 18.0 innings pitched with 10 hits, five runs, four walks and 10 strikeouts. He has a 2.50 ERA in his last three starts and a .164 batting average against.
- Ross continues to lead the bullpen, improving his ERA to 3.65 on Sunday. He has allowed 18 earned runs in 44.1 innings of work.
- Alas' two-run shot in the seventh inning tied him with Ganns for the team lead in home runs with 11. He, Richmond and Ganns each have eight homers in Horizon League play. NKU has 36 as a team across its 19 HL contests for an average of 1.89 per game.
- NKU batted .308 as a team across the three-game set while the pitching staff held WSU to a .234 batting average. Mike Moffatt batted .500 (6-for-12) on the weekend while Alas hit .333 (4-for-12) with two doubles, two homers and six RBI. Cameron Ross totaled 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen against WSU.
