HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis fell to Horizon League rival UIC on Sunday afternoon, with the Flames escaping with a 4-3 victory at Yeager Tennis Complex. With the setback, NKU falls to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in League play, while the Flames advance to 13-5 (4-1 HL).
Match Notables
- For the second straight match, the No. 1 and 3 doubles teams clinched the opening point for the Norse. Danielle Donahue and Katja Dijanezevic teamed up on Court 3 to dispatch Georgie Sanders and Stefana Vasic, 6-1, before Klara Skopac and Margita Skopac took down UIC's top duo of Rachel Le Comber and Melika Leblanc, 6-4.
- The Flames took the next three points of the match with straight-set victories in No. 3, 5 and 6 singles.
- NKU tied the match with a pair of wins in No. 1 and 2 singles. On the top court, Sunjic continued her straight-set winning streak with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oana Manole. The victory marked her seventh consecutive win.
- Skopac blanked Sanders in the opening set of No. 2 singles, but her opponent rallied in the second set to tie it up at 6-6. Skopac emerged victorious in the second-set tiebreak over her opponent, 7-4.
- The match came down to the No. 4 singles court, which pitted Dijanezevic against Bianca Zuzu. Dijanezevic's comeback bid fell just shy against Zuzu, falling 6-4, 6-4.
- The Norse make the short trip to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats on Wednesday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
