HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team defeated Ohio 1-0 in an exhibition on Friday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.
Jessica Frey provided the only goal of the match in the 38
th minute.

Bob Sheehan. "It was another good opportunity to play against a strong opponent. We were able to improve in specific areas from our first exhibition, and we look for the team to continue to grow."
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
- Jessica Frey scored the lone goal of the match in the 38th minute. Macy Hamblin played a ball into the left side of the box, and Frey was able to track it down. Frey one-timed the ball with a defender closing in to the right of the Ohio goalkeeper to give NKU the 1-0 advantage.
BETWEEN THE POSTS
- Ohio did not record a shot on goal in Emily Lohmann's 72 minutes of action.
- Jennifer Farwell came on late in the second half, and she made one save to prevent Ohio from scoring.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The match got off to a slow offensive start, as neither team recorded a shot until the 14th minute.
- However, NKU quickly became the aggressor in the first half, as the Norse had seven shots in the period, compared to two for Ohio.
- After Frey's goal in the 38th minute, the Norse had one more opportunity to score in the half.
- Elizabeth Wittwer took a shot in the 41st minute, but Ohio's Erin Beurket was able to make the save.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- The game was much more even in the second half, with Northern Kentucky recording five shots to Ohio's four.
- The Bobcats had a good scoring chance in the 54th minute of the contest. Paige Knorr entered NKU's box and fired a shot, but the ball went to the right of the goal, and resulted in a goal kick for the Norse.
- Kayte Osterfeld had a decent scoring chance in the 65th minute. Osterfeld looked to pass the ball from outside the box, but it ended up close to the goalkeeper, who had to make a save to prevent the ball from going into the back of the net.
- Hamblin tried to put the Norse up two goals in the final seconds of the match. With the clock ticking, Hamblin fired a shot right at Ohio's Sydney Malham, but the ball was deflected out of the box to extinguish the scoring threat.
GAME NOTES
- The Norse had 12 shots in the game, compared to six for Ohio. NKU also committed six fouls, with the Bobcats only having two in the match.
- NKU ends the preseason with two wins. The Norse defeated Miami (Ohio) 4-2 on Tuesday.
- This was Ohio's only preseason match of 2017.
