INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced its preseason poll and all-league teams on Thursday afternoon, as voted on by the league's head coaches, athletic communications personnel and media members. Northern Kentucky was picked to finish sixth with 152 points, up three spots from a season ago, while junior
Molly Glick was named to the All-Horizon League Preseason First Team.
Reigning Horizon League champion Green Bay claimed a lion's share of the first-place votes, with 28 of 29 polls tabbing the Phoenix as the 2018-19 regular-season champion. The Phoenix topped the poll with 286 points, followed by IUPUI with 245 points and Wright State with 226 points. Rounding out the top-five teams in the poll are Youngstown State (184 points) and Milwaukee (165 points). Oakland (117), Cleveland State (99), Detroit Mercy (65) and UIC (56) complete the preseason poll. IUPUI's Macee Williams was voted the preseason player of the year after being named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2017-18.
Glick joins Williams, along with Green Bay's Jen Wellnitz, Wright State's Emily Vogelpohl and Youngstown State's Sarah Cash as a first-team honoree. It marks the first time in her career that Glick has been selected to a preseason team. The Fostoria, Ohio, native led the Norse in scoring a season ago with 12.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and was second on the team with 34 steals. Glick ranked third in the Horizon League in 3-pointers made, sinking an average of 2.1 shots per game from distance for NKU.
The Norse kick off the 2018-19 season with a home exhibition game against Pikeville at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. NKU begins the nonconference portion of the regular season shortly thereafter with a 7 p.m. matchup in BB&T Arena against Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
