SCOUTING PIKEVILLE: The Bears have already started their season and the graduation of NAIA All-American Jamie Castle has not hindered Pikeville's success as the team holds a 4-0 record thus far. Sunday's contest will prove to be a physical test for the team, as it will be Pikeville's third game in as many days after taking down Point Park on Friday, 68-62, and Bluefield on Saturday, 71-58. Pikeville has been averaging 78.00 points per game through its first four contests and is holding opponents to 59.50 ppg.
Freshman Mary Englert leads the team with 13.3 ppg and has proven to be a weapon from range in the early portion of the season with nine made 3-pointers at a .529 clip. Kayla Mullins and Emily Baker are also averaging above 10.0 ppg, while Theodora Odia and Mia Greatrex are not far off double figures with at least 9.0 ppg. The Bears have also been crashing the boards hard with a 43.0-28.5 rebounding advantage, and have been dishing out 15.0 assists per game with Englert and Elisabeth Latham leading the way with 11 dimes apiece. Baker and Latham lead the team defensively, with Baker amassing 11 steals so far while Latham has five blocks on the year.
The Norse and the Bears do not have a series history, as the teams have never met up in the regular season.
