HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball returns to action after 10-day break when the team hosts Illinois State on Friday, Dec. 7. Tipoff against the Redbirds is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT: The Norse led by seven at the half, but eventually fell on the road at Austin Peay after the Governors used a 10-6 fourth quarter to claim the win, 52-48. Freshman point guard
Taylor Clos was sensational with a career-high 21 points and went 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
Kailey Coffey chipped in 11 points off a 5-for-5 outing from the floor, and
Grayson Rose reached double digits in rebounding for the second-straight game, with 11 boards to go with three blocks.
CENTURY MARK: Molly Glick became the 12th Norse in program history to amass 100 career 3-pointers. The redshirt-junior guard has been averaging 1.45 3-pointers per game in her career, and has made 100 triples in 69 games played. Last season, Glick made 64 buckets from beyond the arc, putting her at sixth on NKU's all-time single-season list. She needs just four more 3-pointers to crack NKU's all-time career top-10 list, as 104 3-pointers would put her in a three-way tie for ninth with Amy Mobley (1999-2003) and Kayla Thacker (2010-14).
SCOUTING ILLINOIS STATE: The Redbirds hold a 3-4 record, with all four losses coming on the road. Illinois State has been plagued by injury in recent contests and has played just seven players after Mary Crompton, Paige Saylor and Megan Talbot have been sidelined with injury. Talbot was a key component in the Redbirds' 49-37 victory over the Norse last season as she went 7-for-9 from the field for 17 points to go with eight rebounds. The team recently added a bit more depth with the addition of Lexi Wallen, who recently completed her volleyball career at ISU.
Illinois State also played Austin Peay in its most recent matchup, downing the Governors, 61-49. Simone Goods, who leads the team with 16.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, posted a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds and went 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Tete Maggett chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds. On the season, the Redbirds have been winning by a slim margin of 58.7-57.6 and are shooting 40.3 percent from the field. Maggett has proven to be a threat from long range, shooting 31.0 percent with nine made 3-pointers this season, and she also runs the offense with 20 assists on the year.
NKU leads the all-time series with the Redbirds, 4-3, and has posted a 2-1 record since transitioning to Division I.
