@NKUNorseBSB begins Horizon League play at UIC this weekend

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team will open Horizon League play this weekend at UIC. The series begins at 5:05 p.m. ET on Friday, and all three games will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

LAST TIME OUT
Miami (Ohio) defeated NKU this past weekend in three games by scores of 10-2, 2-0, and 11-9. The series finale was the first home game of the season, and the teams played 10 innings. With Miami leading 9-6, the Norse scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Will Haueter, Mike Moffatt and Andrew Bacon all hit RBI doubles in the inning. However, the RedHawks prevailed in the game by scoring two runs in the top of the 10th inning.

The Norse were originally scheduled to play Butler on Tuesday, March 13, but that game was rescheduled for Wednesday, April 4.
 
SCOUTING UIC
UIC enters the contest at 11-4 overall, which includes a 5-0 record in home games. The Flames are also on a five-game winning streak. UIC most recently defeated Northern Illinois on Wednesday by a final score of 18-3. The Flames had 22 hits in the contest.

Scott Ota leads the team with a .424 batting average. He has 25 hits, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, five doubles, two homers and a triple. Aaron Ackerman is batting at a .321 clip with 17 hits, 12 runs scored, 11 RBI, seven doubles and a homer.

On the mound, Ryan Campbell, Jacob Key, and Reid Birlingmair have all made four starts for the Flames this season. They have an ERA of 0.87, 2.88, and 3.57, respectively. Charlie Cerny has made nine appearances out of the bullpen, and he sports a team-leading 0.60 ERA.

NKU head coach Todd Asalon is in his 18th season at the helm of the Norse baseball program. He has a 521-469-1 record at NKU and a 665-561-1 overall record.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
Will Haueter leads the team in batting average at .373. He has 22 hits, 12 RBI, nine runs scored, five doubles, five homers, and a triple. Haueter leads the team in hits, runs, doubles, home runs, and RBI. Dominic Mercurio is batting .333 on the year with 17 hits, seven runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
 
On the mound, Cameron Ross leads the team with 21.1 innings pitched. He has a 4.22 ERA this season. Brody Basilone has started in two of the four games he has appeared in this season. He has a 3.86 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched.
