HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team travels to Youngstown State this weekend for a Horizon League series. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and close the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. The schedule is a departure from the initial arrangement for this weekend's slate of games due to field conditions caused by snow that hit the Youngstown area earlier this week.

LAST TIME OUT
The Norse opened up Horizon League play at UIC this past weekend. NKU fell in the first two games by scores of 4-3 and 5-0. In the series finale, the Norse picked up a 6-1 win in 10 innings.
Jake Richmond led off the series finale with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. UIC tied the game in the fifth inning, but the Norse prevailed by crossing the plate five times in the top of the 10
th inning.
Mike Moffatt had an RBI single in the frame, and
Will Haueter also had a single that drove in two runs. Moffatt later scored in the inning on a wild pitch, and Haueter came home on
Dominic Mercurio's RBI double.
Brody Basilone got the start in the final game of the series. He went six innings, allowing just four hits and an unearned run.
Kyle Service got the win on the mound for throwing three scoreless innings, and
Joe Martin came out of the bullpen and didn't allow a hit in the bottom of the 10
th inning.
SCOUTING YSU
The Penguins enter the contest at 2-16 overall. The team most recently fell to Kent State on Tuesday by a score of 7-2. Prior to that, YSU went 1-2 against Milwaukee in their first Horizon League series of 2018. As a team, the Penguins are batting .200 on the year, while allowing opponents to hit for a .315 average. Glenn Blaze leads YSU with a .271 average. He has 16 hits, six runs scored, six RBI, two doubles and two home runs on the year. On the mound, Collin Floyd and Greg Dunham have each started five games this season. Floyd is 1-4 with a 4.94 ERA and 27 strikeouts. Dunham has a 1-3 record with 15 strikeouts.

TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
Haueter leads NKU in batting average at .362. He has 25 hits, 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, five homers, five doubles and a triple. Moffatt is hitting at a .324 clip with 23 hits, 10 runs scored, six RBI, four doubles and two triples. Basilone leads the team in ERA at 2.55. He has made three starts in five appearances with a 1-1 record. As a team, the Norse are 3-0 this season when outhitting their opponents. NKU is also 4-2 when leading or tied after the eighth inning.
