CHICAGO – Northern Kentucky women's tennis fell to Horizon League foe UIC on Friday afternoon, 5-2. The Norse move to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in League play, while the Flames advance to 8-6 (3-1 HL).
Match Notables
- UIC took the lead with the doubles point, claiming victories in the No. 1 and 3 matchups. Maria Koo and Taylor Culbertson fell to Georgie Sanders and Lejla Colic in the top flight, 6-3, while Katja Dijanezevic and Hannah Watton dropped a 6-2 decision to Miranda Rodriguez and Bianca Zuzu.
- The Flames rattled off three-straight singles win to clinch the match, winning in the No. 4, 5 and 3 spots. The No. 3 singles match pitted Sydney Power against Melika LeBlanc, which saw Power take the opener, 6-2. LeBlanc answered back with a 6-3 second set and won it in the third, 6-1.
- Margita Sunjic and Maria Koo both recorded victories in the top two flights. Koo had a decisive win over Sanders in the No. 2 singles match, downing her 6-4, 6-1.
- Sunjic won in the tiebreak against Colic in No. 1 singles, taking a 6-4 first set before a 7-5 setback in the second. She went on to take the tiebreak, 10-5.
The Norse are back in action tomorrow with their third match in three days, facing IUPUI on the road at 9 a.m. ET.
