INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky women's tennis bounced back on Sunday with a 5-2 win over Horizon League foe IUPUI, capping off a weekend of three matches in three days with a 2-1 record in that span. NKU moves to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in League play.
Match Notables
- The doubles point was a battle that IUPUI won, with the No. 1 and 2 spots going extended sets. Taylor Culbertson and Maria Koo fell in the top flight to Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Samantha Mayer, 7-5, while Margita Sunjic and Sydney Power dropped a 7-6(4) decision to Krystal Grubb and Mariella Pessina in the No. 2 match.
- The Norse took care of business in singles action to clinch the match, starting with Sunjic in the top flight. She picked up her third win in as many days and remains undefeated in League play after downing Lavrenchuck, 6-1, 6-0.
- Katja Dijanezevic gave NKU the lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marina Schneiger in the No. 6 singles match, and Hannah Watton put the Norse one point away from victory after defeating Molly Nguyen in matching 6-2 sets in the No. 5 match.
- Koo provided the clinching point in the No. 2 singles match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Grubb. Power added another point with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Pessina in the No. 3 singles match.
The Norse are close to home for a midweek contest at Cincinnati on Wednesday, April 4. First serve against the Bearcats is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
