DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis kept its momentum going with a 4-2 win over Dayton on Wednesday afternoon, moving to 6-7 on the season while the Flyers drop to 13-8. The Norse have now won their last three matches.
Match Notables
- The Norse won the doubles point for the third-straight match with hard-fought wins on the No. 1 and 3 courts. In No. 3 doubles, Hannah Watton and Katja Dijanezevic won over Anna Delaney and Kelly Pleiman by dominating the tiebreak, 7-6(0). Maria Koo and Margita Sunjic clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Marlys Bridgham and Mattea Kilstofte after being down 5-1 on the top court.
- Dayton took a brief 2-1 lead following wins on the No. 3 and 4 courts.
- Sunjic made it eight wins in a row and five-straight in two sets at the No. 1 singles spot, taking down Bridgham in matching 6-2 sets.
- Watton added a straight-set victory over Pleiman in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3. She is now riding a three-match winning streak, all in straight sets.
- The clinching point was provided by Koo, who had a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win over Kilstofte in No. 2 singles. Koo is also on a three-match winning streak in singles play.
The Norse head back into Horizon League competition this weekend, first traveling to Youngstown State for a 2 p.m. match against the Penguins on Saturday, April 14, before a 10 a.m. first serve at Cleveland State on Sunday, April 15.
