YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis fell to Horizon League-leading Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-2. The Norse drop to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in League play while the Penguins remain undefeated in the Horizon League at 6-0 and 12-9 overall.
Match Notables
- The Penguins took the doubles point with wins in No. 2 and 3 doubles, and the rattled off wins in the No. 3, 5 and 4 singles matches to clinch the team win.
- Margita Sunjic kept her League record unblemished and recorded her sixth-consecutive straight-set win with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Noelly Longi Nsimba in the top flight. The match was Longi Nsimba's first loss in League play.
- Katja Dijanezevic added a three-set win in No. 6 singles, taking down Cassandra Moraleja, 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.
- Despite the setbacks, the Norse gave superb efforts with extended sets in three of the four singles losses.
- Maria Koo and Sydney Power both fought back from a 6-2 opening set to extend their second sets, eventually falling 7-5. Koo dropped the No. 2 match to Sofia Macias, while Power fell to Anastasiia Khokhlova in No. 3 singles.
- Taylor Culbertson had a similar effort, falling 6-1, 7-5 to Imaan Hassim in the No. 4 slot.
The Norse are back tomorrow morning at Cleveland State. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
