HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis closed out the regular season at 7-10 and 4-5 in the Horizon League after dropping a tight match against Oakland, 4-3. Following the match, NKU honored its two seniors,
Alyssa DeFiglio and
Sydney Power.
Match Notables
- Oakland took a 2-0 lead with doubles wins on courts 2 and 3, followed by a win on the No. 6 singles court.
- The Norse tied it up with a pair of swift wins on the top two courts.
- Margita Sunjic posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Darya Maltseva in No. 1 singles. For the second-straight season, she finished the Horizon League slate with just one setback.
- Maria Koo also had a quick win in No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Dasha Artamonova.
- After the Golden Grizzlies claimed a win in the No. 5 singles matchup, Taylor Culbertson tied the contest up once more with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win in No. 4 singles versus Alexandra Whall.
- The deciding point came down to the match on court 3, where Sydney Power took the first set over Allison Motea, 6-2. However, Motea rallied for the next two set wins to clinch the match for Oakland, 6-2, 6-3.
NKU will participate in the postseason for the first time since moving to the Horizon League, earning the No. 6 seed into the Horizon League Championship. The Norse will take on the No. 3 seed, which is still to be determined, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27. This year's championship will be held at Schwartz Tennis Center on the Purdue campus in West Lafayette, Indiana.
