CLEVELAND, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis fell to Cleveland State in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Women's Tennis Championship, 4-1. The Norse end their season at 7-11, while the Vikings advance to play Youngstown State in the semifinals.
Match Notables
- The Vikings took the opening point with wins on the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts. Sydney Power and Katja Dijanezevic went an extended set in the clinching match, falling 7-5 to Jana Schober and Gaby Schoenberg in the No. 2 matchup.
- Margita Sunjic secured NKU's only point of the match, avenging an earlier season loss to Isabella Spindler in the top flight. Spindler took a three-set win over Sunjic during the regular season, but the Horizon League Player of the Year downed Spindler in straight sets in this meeting, 6-3, 6-4.
- Cleveland State secured its victory with wins in No. 4, 5 and 6 singles. The match came down to a trio of contests that were in their third set, but Dijanezevic was the first to fall with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 setback to Anastasia Perin in No. 6 singles.
- Maria Koo won her opening set against Gaby Schoenberg in No. 2 singles, 6-2, before Schoenberg pushed a third with a 6-4 second set. Koo led 2-1 at the time that the match was abandoned.
- Power won her opening set as well, 7-5 over Aleksandra Golawska in No. 3 singles.
