OXFORD, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team defeated Miami (Ohio) in an exhibition on Sunday evening by a final score of 3-1. This was the second win of the preseason for the Norse.
"Our team committed to proper defending, and it showed tonight," said head coach
Bob Sheehan. "Strong defensive performances were turned in by our players both individually and collectively. We created excellent chances and earned three quality goals. We are pleased with the unselfish nature of how we are playing and the balance that we are showing in our attack."
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
- Emily Soltes gave the Norse a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Megan Patrick and Payton Naylor earned assists on the play.
- Shawna Zaken made the score 2-0 in the 60th minute. She beat a defender one-on-one and scored from 15 yards out on the right side. Soltes and Samantha Duwel each recorded an assist.
- With the score 2-1, Chloe Mills fired a shot from 30 yards out. The ball went into the upper corner of the net to extend the Norse lead to 3-1.
BETWEEN THE POSTS
- Emily Lohmann got the start in goal for the Norse. She faced just one shot in the first half and also saw action in the second half.
- Jennifer Farwell started the second half, and she made two saves in the contest.
- Sarah Cady played the final seven minutes of the match.
