LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's tennis opened up the spring season with a 4-2 win over Bellarmine before dropping a 7-0 decision at Louisville.
Match Notables
- The Norse claimed the opening point at Bellarmine after wins in No. 1 and 3 doubles. Margita Sunjic and Hannah Watton defeated Madison Devillez and Aubrey Smith in the No. 3 match, 6-4, before Maria Koo and Taylor Culbertson clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Maggie Walroth and Ashley Jonathan.
- Sunjic, Koo and Watton picked up singles wins to give the Norse the victory. Sunjic went three sets against Jennifer Skonieczny in the top flight, with each claiming a 6-3 set before Sunjic put the match away with a 6-1 win in the third.
- Koo had a convincing win over Walroth in No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Watton defeated Aubrey Smith in the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 6-1.
- In the second match of the day, Louisville claimed each set played against the Norse. Sunjic had a competitive match against Aleksandra Mally atop the lineup, dropping the first set 6-3 before falling in an extended set, 7-5.
- Every Norse took at least a game off her respective opponent, but only two Norse did not drop a 6-0 set. Along with Sunjic, Culbertson went 6-2, 6-2 against Nikolina Jovic in No. 3 singles.
NKU is back in action tomorrow against Ball State in a neutral-site match in Louisville. First serve against the Cardinals is scheduled for noon ET.
