INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced its preseason poll and all-league teams on Thursday afternoon, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Northern Kentucky was picked to finish sixth with 51 points, matching its preseason prediction from a season ago, and senior
Molly Glick was named to the Preseason Second Team.
Two teams emerged as the favorites to fight for this year's regular-season crown, with Green Bay and Wright State both tallying 91 points and four first-place votes to tie for first in the poll. Wright State claimed both the regular-season and tournament titles last season, marking the first time since the 1996-97 season that Green Bay had not won either the regular-season or tournament championship. IUPUI also received a pair of first-place votes, finishing third in the poll with 85 points. Youngstown State (71) and Milwaukee (57) complete the top-five. Following Northern Kentucky in the poll are Cleveland State (37), Oakland (31), Detroit Mercy (19) and UIC (17).
Glick earns preseason honors for the second time in her career. The redshirt-senior was one of two Norse to average double figures during the 2018-19 campaign with 10.0 ppg and led the squad with 55 made 3-pointers, connecting at a .331 clip from beyond the arc. She currently sits at fourth on NKU's all-time career 3-pointer list with 147 made treys.
Last season, NKU recorded its best conference finish since moving to the Horizon League, going 10-8 to tie for fifth. The Norse return all five starters for this season, plus four newcomers in
Carissa Garcia,
Tayah Irvin,
Janna Lewis and
Ivy Turner.
The Norse get their first taste of action in a Halloween exhibition game versus Davis & Elkins College, with tip-off set for 7 p.m. at BB&T Arena. The season officially starts on Nov. 6, when the Norse travel to in-state foe Eastern Kentucky for a 7 p.m. contest.
