HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team used a second-half surge to overcome Davis & Elkins on Thursday in an exhibition matchup at BB&T Arena. The Norse won, 73-47, in the lone exhibition of the season.
STAT LEADERS
- In her unofficial Norse debut, freshman Carissa Garcia lead NKU with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists.
- Molly Glick had a solid night, contributing 14 points and eight rebounds to the box score. She shot 3-for-4 beyond the arc.
- Grayson Rose was just off a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
- Every Norse that played scored in tonight's contest.
TURNING POINT
- After a slew of points by Davis & Elkins that brought NKU's lead to just five points, the Norse went into overdrive with 6:21 left in the third and went on a 19-4 run to put the game out of reach.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The trio of Glick, Garcia and Kailey Coffey each made scores that set up NKU with a 12-8 lead over the Senators to begin the game.
- The Norse built up a sizable lead in the second quarter thanks to a 7-0 run that consisted of jumpers from Garcia and Glick, as well as a 3-pointer form Ivy Turner.
- Davis & Elkins clawed back into the game, however, and narrowed the deficit to 33-26 at halftime.
- NKU had 18 points in the paint and 17 fast-break points to end the half.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- The Senators started off the half strong, getting within five points with 6:21 left in the third, but NKU weathered the storm and four different Norse contributed to a 10-3 run in the closing minutes of the quarter.
- The NKU run continued into the fourth as Garcia and Ally Niece sunk back-to-back triples and Turner piled on another layup to make it 56-37.
- The Norse lead stretched past 20 points thanks to Rose free throws with 6:45 left in the game.
GAME NOTES
- The Norse finished the game with 29-for-70 (41 percent) shooting. More than half (15) of NKU's made shots were off an assist.
- NKU won the rebounding battle, 52-41.
- Eighteen points came off of forced turnovers for the Norse as NKU had 14 steals on the night.

- NKU gets the 2019-20 season started on November 6 with a road trip to Eastern Kentucky. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
