@NKUNorseWBB welcomes Sugar Bears on Victor’s Hoops 4 Health Day

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball starts the week off with a home contest, hosting Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25. The game is NKU's annual Victor's Hoops 4 Health contest, which invites local elementary schools to BB&T Arena to learn about healthy habits. Admission for the game will be free to the public, and it will be broadcast on ESPN3.

LAST TIME OUT: Northern Kentucky picked up its first win of the season with a balanced team effort against Omaha. The Norse defeated the Mavericks behind 11 points from Molly Glick and eight points from Taylor Clos, Carissa Garcia and Emmy Souder. NKU put suffocating defensive pressure on Omaha, forcing 27 turnovers that were converted into 22 points. The Norse also had a successful night in long-range shooting with seven 3-pointers as Clos, Glick and Souder each sank a pair.

MILESTONE TRACKER: Glick currently has 962 career points, putting her just 38 away from scoring the 1,000th point of her career. Accomplishing the feat would make Glick the 30th Norse to hit the milestone, and she would also be just the second player to score 1,000 points in the Division I era. Christine Roush was the first fully D-I player to hit 1,000 career points, as she finished her 2012-16 career with 1,439 points. Melody Doss (2011-15) also reached 1,154 points in her career, but played her freshman campaign in the Division II era.

Glick also has 156 career 3-pointers and is just three triples away from tying Michele Tuchfarber (1997-2001) for third on NKU's all-time career 3-pointers list. The redshirt-senior has made two 3-pointers in the last four outings.

SCOUTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS: The Sugar Bears hold a 1-3 record on the season with the lone win coming against cross-town Division III opponent Hendrix College. UCA is coming off a 65-38 loss at Tulane, which saw the team shoot 26.4 percent from the floor in the setback. Through four games, Central Arkansas has spread its offense out well among four different players averaging between 8.3 and 9.3 points per game. Terri Crawford leads that category with 9.3 ppg and is also second on the team with 4.8 rebounds per game. UCA has struggled in shooting the long ball, connecting at just 18.2 percent from 3-point range, and Hannah Langhi leads that category with three made triples on the season. The Sugar Bears have done well with protecting the ball, surrendering 14.8 turnovers per game while forcing their opponents into 17.5 miscues a contest. However, UCA has allowed opponents to block 4.8 shots per game, despite shooting 38.2 percent from the floor.

UCA is one of five first-time opponents that the Norse will face this season. NKU is currently 1-1 against such teams, falling to Saint Louis on Nov. 12 before defeating Omaha on Nov. 21.

A LOOK AT THE NORSE: Northern Kentucky returns 91.1 percent of its scoring from a season ago, including all five starters. Redshirt-senior Molly Glick, a preseason all-league honoree, is the lone senior on the squad. Ally Niece returns for her sophomore campaign after being named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, averaging 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in league play. Northern Kentucky also welcomes four newcomers who look to make an immediate impact: Janna Lewis, Garcia, Tayah Irvin and Ivy Turner. Lewis joins the Norse out of Motlow State Community College, where she was named an NJCAA All-American. Garcia, a guard out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was named to the Indiana All-Star team and was the Summit Athletic Conference's most outstanding player. Irvin, a forward from Fishers, Indiana, was heralded as the top defensive player for Hamilton Southeastern. Turner, a guard from Danville, Kentucky, was named the 12th Region Co-Player of the Year and ended her prep career as Danville's all-time leading scorer.
