Turner named #HLWBB Freshman of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced on Monday afternoon that Northern Kentucky women's basketball rookie Ivy Turner has been named the Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week after helping the Norse to a 3-0 record over the course of the past week. Turner garners the accolade for the first time in her young collegiate career.

"Ivy has been playing extremely well, which has contributed greatly to our team's improvement over the last week," commended head coach Camryn Whitaker. "She is one of the most consistent and mature freshmen I've had the pleasure to coach and I couldn't be happier for her and our team!"

The Danville, Kentucky, native had double-digit scoring efforts in all three of Northern Kentucky's victories over the past week, averaging 12.7 points per game. The rookie had an efficient week from the floor, shooting 55.0 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc through the three contests, and got herself to the free-throw line 16 times, converting on 87.5 percent of her attempts. Turner started the week out with 13 points against Central Arkansas, followed by 12 in a thrilling win over Jacksonville State, and capped the week off with another 13 points over FIU. The 5-foot-5 guard also added 5.3 rebounds per game, including a career-best eight against FIU, and dished out five assists while nabbing three steals over the course of the week.

Northern Kentucky rides a four-game winning streak into Sunday's contest with No. 8/9 Louisville. The Norse host the Cardinals at BB&T Arena on December 8, with tip-off set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will be Campbell County Day, which provides $5 tickets for all fans from Campbell County with proof of residence.
