@NKUNorseBSB heads to Virginia to take on VMI

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team heads to Virginia this weekend to take on VMI. The series begins on Friday, March 1, with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. Live stats will be available for all of the games.

SERIES HISTORY
This is the first meeting between the two schools.
 
TAKING A LOOK AT THE NORSE
NKU is 0-7 on the year. The team most recently fell in a heartbreaking loss to Kentucky on Wednesday. NKU led 4-1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Wildcats crossed the plate four times in the frame to get a 5-4 victory. Billy Marion went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Norse in the contest with two doubles and two RBI. Griffin Doersching was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Andrew Bacon recorded a double and scored a run in the game.
 
Freshman Noah Fisher leads the team with a .370 batting average. Fisher has two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI on the season. Bacon is batting .280 this season with three doubles, three runs and an RBI. Doersching leads the team with six RBI.  
 
SCOUTING VMI
The Keydets enter the contest at 2-8 overall, and the team has lost seven-straight games. VMI most recently fell to Old Dominion by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday. Jake Huggins leads the team among qualified hitters with a .318 average. He has three home runs, a triple, eight runs scored and 12 RBI. As a team, VMI is hitting .215 on the year, and allowing opponents to hit .241. On the mound, the Keydets have a team ERA of 6.12, while their opponents have an ERA of 2.83.
 
BOBBY FONG AWARD
The NKU baseball team was named the recipient of the Horizon League's Bobby Fong Award in 2018. The award encompasses the league's values of integrity, respect and stewardship and is presented to one current Horizon League student-athlete or team. The award is named for the late Dr. Bobby Fong, a former Butler University president who served on the Horizon League Board of Directors from 2001-2011. The NKU baseball team has historically been the leader of the athletic department in the area of community service and impact. The team participates in a number of volunteer opportunities throughout the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati areas.

The Norse travel to Alabama next weekend for a series. The series begins on Friday, March 8 with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. All of the games for the series will be broadcast on the SEC Network +.
