HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky men's basketball players
Drew McDonald and
Dantez Walton were named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team the league office in Indianapolis announced on Thursday afternoon.
This marks the third-straight year McDonald collected the honor, as the senior holds a 3.40 GPA as a marketing major. The native of Cold Spring, Kentucky, also recently earned Google Cloud Academic All-District 2 Team accolades from CoSIDA. McDonald is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award and was a member of the 2018 NABC Honors Court.
On the hardwood, McDonald is rewriting NKU's record books. He already holds Northern Kentucky's career marks for rebounds (1,048), defensive rebounds (789) and free throws made (444), while sitting just 10 points away from setting the Norse record for career scoring.
Walton collects the all-academic team nod with a 3.57 GPA in Organizational Leadership. He is averaging career highs in scoring (11.1 ppg), rebounds (5.3 rpg) and assists (2.7 apg). The Lima, Ohio, native has also started every game this season for NKU, reaching double-figures 19 times on the year.
Northern Kentucky recently secured its third-straight 20-win season and sits at 21-8 overall, including an 11-5 mark in Horizon League play. The Norse travel to Milwaukee and Green Bay for the final two games of the regular season before hosting a quarterfinal matchup in the Horizon League Championship.
