Ohio State edges @NKUNorseBSB on Tuesday, 10-8

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Ohio State on Tuesday by a final score of 10-8. NKU drops to 4-13 on the year, while OSU improves to 10-10.
 
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Proctor Mercer got the start for the Norse. He went two innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk. He also struck out a batter.
  • Jake Dennis pitched three innings out of the bullpen. He gave up four runs, but only two were earned. Dennis also recorded a strikeout.
  • Noah Richardson (L, 0-2) went out to the mound in the sixth inning. He allowed three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out a batter.
  • Tyler Ollier came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning, allowing two runs on a hit and four walks.
  • Gunnar Barnard got the final out of the eighth inning.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Doersching put the Norse ahead 2-0 in the top of the first. Haueter doubled with two outs in the inning. Doersching stepped up to the plate in the next at-bat and sent a ball over the center field wall for a two-run homer.
  • OSU got a run back in the bottom half of the first. Brady Cherry hit a double, and he came home on an RBI single by Conner Pohl.
  • NKU added a run in the third to go ahead 3-1. Andrew Bacon reached on a fielding error by the OSU third baseman, and Hedges scored on the play.
  • The Norse scored three times in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Alas doubled with one out in the inning, and he came home on a double by Luty. Moments later, Hedges entered the batter's box and hit a two-run homer over the left field wall.  
  • The Buckeyes had four runners cross the plate in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-5. Nolan Clegg hit a two-run homer, and Cherry added a two-run double.
  • Hedges recorded another RBI for the Norse in the sixth inning to give NKU a 7-5 advantage. With runners on second and third, he hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Alas to cross the plate.
  • OSU took an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Zach Dezenzo hit an RBI double, and Brent Todys added a two-run homer.
  • The Buckeyes added two runs in the eighth to go ahead 10-7. With the bases loaded, Clegg and Nick Erwin walked in consecutive at-bats.
  • NKU loaded the bases in the ninth inning. Collin Hohman struck out swinging in the next at-bat, but he reached first on a passed ball, allowing Hedges to score to make the score 10-8.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Hedges' home run was the first of his career.
  • Doersching hit his third homer of the season.
  • Haueter now has 51 doubles and 204 hits in his career. He ranks fourth all-time at NKU in doubles and is tied for ninth all-time in hits.
 
UP NEXT
  • NKU returns home to face Milwaukee in a Horizon League series this weekend. The series begins on Friday, March 22 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
