CINCINNATI, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis recorded its first Horizon League win of the season, defeating IUPUI 5-2 on Friday afternoon. The Norse move to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in league play while IUPUI dips to 5-11 (1-2 Horizon).
Match Notables
- NKU won the opening point with wins in No. 2 and 1 doubles. Maria Koo and Katja Dijanezevic teamed up for a 6-1 win over Christina Stankovic and Mariella Pessina in No. 2 doubles. Taylor Culbertson and Margita Sunjic clinched the point with a 7-6 victory in the top flight over Krystal Grubb and Gabrielle Ochalik, fighting off three match points before claiming the victory.
- IUPUI tied the contest at 1-1 with a win in No. 6 singles. Sunjic recorded a win over Stankovic in No. 1 singles, blanking her opponent 6-0 before Stankovic retired, but the Jaguars tied it up once more with a victory in the No. 4 singles spot.
- NKU posted wins in No. 2 and 3 singles to clinch the victory. Maria Koo defeated Ochalik in the second flight, winning the first set 6-4 before a 6-0 second-set win.
- Elizabeth Rozin provided the clinching point out of the No. 3 spot, downing Sarah Lounsbury in matching 6-3 sets.
- Dijanezevic added a victory in No. 5 singles for good measure, defeating Grubb 6-2, 6-4.
NKU's match versus UIC has been moved indoors for tomorrow's contest. First serve is now set for 5 p.m. from Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
