INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League announced on its final weekly honors on Monday, March 4, with Northern Kentucky women's basketball point guard Ally Niece claiming Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week. Niece earns the honor for the second time of her career, previously garnering the distinction on Jan. 7.
 
Niece posted a tremendous stat line over the final weekend of the regular season, leading the Norse with 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game as the Norse claimed a pair of road wins over Oakland and Detroit Mercy. The rookie point guard shot .500 from the field and .462 from 3-point range and was also staunch on the defensive end with four steals. She started her weekend off with 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists at Oakland before finishing with a career-high 22 points, career-best eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals at Detroit Mercy. Additionally, Niece drained four 3-pointers in the win over the Titans.
 
"Ally has accepted and embraced her role of leading this team as our point guard, so I couldn't be happier for her to earn Freshman of the Week for the second time," said head coach Camryn Whitaker. "Her ability to score and also create for others is what makes her such a special player."
 
Niece led the Norse in scoring during the Horizon League season at 12.1 points per game while also pulling down 4.3 rebounds per game and dishing out 4.1 assists per game. In addition to flirting with a triple-double in the last two outings, Niece recorded NKU's first points/assists double-double in the Division I era earlier this season, with 12 points and 11 assists versus UIC on Feb. 2.
 
The Norse earned the No. 5 seed in the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship and will head to No. 4 IUPUI for a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, March 5. Tip-off against the Jaguars is set for 7 p.m. ET.
