CINCINNATI, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's tennis dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to Cleveland State, which is tied with UIC atop the Horizon League standings with an unblemished record. The Norse drop to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in Horizon League play while the Vikings move to 13-7 (6-0 Horizon).
Match Notables
- Cleveland State won the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and 3 doubles. Maria Koo and Elizabeth Rozin posted a 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot over Lara Prosenjak and Kateryna Avaram. In the top flight, Taylor Culbertson and Margita Sunjic narrowly missed out on upending Klara Mrcela and Isabella Spindler, falling 7-6 to the Vikings.
- The Vikings used wins in No. 4 and 6 singles to get in match-clinching position before Katja Dijanezevic recorded the first point for the Norse. She downed Gaby Schoenberg in No. 5 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(4). She has now won three matches in a row.
- Cleveland State clinched the match with a win in No. 1 singles, but the Norse posted two more victories in No. 2 and 3 singles.
- Koo won her ninth-straight match in No. 2 singles, going to her second three-set match this weekend. She took the first set against Mrcela, but fell 6-1 in the second set before claiming her victory in the third, 6-3.
- Rozin also had a three-set victory, falling 6-3 in the opening set to Prosenjak. She pushed a third set with a 6-3 win in the second and won the deciding set, 7-6(4).
NKU hits the road for the final matches of the regular season next weeken. The Norse make their first stop at Detroit Mercy on Friday, April 19, with first serve set for 3 p.m. The trip wraps up at Oakland at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
